Woman Accused of Using Jiu-Jitsu Moves on her Son

A single mother from Boynton beach is right now facing a child abuse charge because she used martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu in this case, on her son. What she was trying to do was to get the cell phone from her son.

Her name is Tracy Shelley and she separated from her husband. As she told police that’s exactly where problems with her son started. She told police that after the separation her son wasn’t following the house rules and that he’s very disrespectful at her home.

According to the police report, Shelley went to get her son’ cellphone as he was using it for several hours without pause and was refusing to give it up. Shelley said she put him in a submission hold with both her arms around his neck. She released him when he gave up the phone. The move she was talking about is probably a Rear Naked Choke.

The police report and investigators claim that the boy never lost consciousness but he had red marks and bruises on his neck.

Shelley is free on bond, per court records.

CBS12 News knocked on Shelley’s door, but no one answered. According to the CBS12

Neighbors say Shelley is a very nice woman, and it must have been a misunderstanding.

The conflict has since sparked a conversation about parenting and where to draw the line.

“Boy, I’ve never heard of anything like that,” said Vicki Shall, a mother of two. “I can see disciplining and taking the phone away, but past that, something’s not right.”

“It [the arrest] sounds a little extreme,” said Patricia Knobel, another parent. “Parents have a right to discipline their kids, but obviously without hurting them.”
